"It en't the place o' children t'question th'motivations o' their elders, boy," said the Irishman with a frown, and he crossed his arms over his chest and scowled. He wasn't exactly sure why he did care, but for whatever reason, his anger at being swindled was a very profound thing. He snatched the artifact up and pocketed it himself, swiftly, and then set about the other goods, pushing them into his pockets. Redjack hadn't been expecting the acquisition of merchandise, and therefore his pockets bulged after a few moments. He simply didn't have as many pockets as Mum. Still, most of it was tucked away, and he'd be able to get back to his kip without trouble.
As he collected his purchases, he continued with his speech, however. "I see not what business o' yers it is if I were t'choose t'buy a jewelry box, or a hairbrush, or a lady's foine undergarments, nor what business o' yers it is what I choose to do with said item." Finally, everything--if not in its proper place--then at least in a place, Redjack squared his shoulders and looked at the children. "Now next toime ye choose t' play a bloke fer a fool, please do it t'somebody what en't me. Good day, boys." With those words, he turned and swaggered off. -------------------- |

Mum watched the man walk off. And after he'd scolded her! The young urchin felt his cheeks go hot and Mum's fingers curled in her pocket. She'd get that pretty box. But that wasn't the important part. Slowly he looked over at Tup.
The boy was watching Redjack's back with a thoughtful look. "Wunner where he 'bides." he said and chewed his lip pensively. Mum shrugged but then her look became questioning. With a shifty look Tup gave her a tiny nod. She hopped down from her seat without a sound. In a second she was in the shadows. Her eyes were on the Irishman as they moved together out of Seven Dials. -------------------- "I went down to Satan's kitchen, for to beg me food one morning
An' there I got souls piping hot, all on the spit a'turning." ~Mum's the word~ |
