Staff/Player NPCs
* Staff Only John Brown hisownself* Mycroft Holmes* The Prime Minister and Lord of the Treasury* Her Majesty Queen Victoria* (if she *ever* shows up, you're all in Very Deep Trouble) Influential Sorts High Society Lady Bourneville The undisputed Martriarch of the London high social scene, she is generous but exacting. Police Business Superintendant Williams A middle-aged man who has seen and heard it all, and still keeps trudging. Whitechapel Mrs. Carter Mrs. Carter believes first in the coin and then in influence. She takes good care of her house an better care of her girls...provided they're as canny and greedy as she is. Shoreditch Spider Nobody's really aware of how many pies Spider's got his fingers in. But they're sure to be more than you see, and bigger, too. Docklands Muireann At first glance, the leave-girl they call 'The Dockwitch' is just another dockside whore. But she sure seems to know a lot about the comings and goings of everyone on the Docks... Crime Redjack Ryan He's got a wide grin and a reckless attitude, but Redjack Ryan also has his head on strait, and he's one of the fixtures in both the Docklands and the East End. A Helpful Sheet! Name: Relationships: Physical Description: General Impression: General Use NPCs Player NPCs Each player may, if they liked, either pm these to the Monarch, or make a post with all the NPCs related to their character. Although technically most all NPCs are for general use, it's considered good manners to check with a player before playing one of 'their' NPCs. All that is needed is a short blurb for each, though the NPC sheet can be helpful. Then, any NPCs accounts can be linked to that post. Other NPCs Jimmy Sideways Jimmy Sideways is a lanky, skinny little man with ribs that poke out and eyes that dart quickly. He's the link, if there could be said to be a single one, between the criminals of the East End and the loose, sprawling confederacy of Sweeps that inhabit the strange soot-blanketed world on the rooftops of the city. It can be useful for a robber to know a person or two who can wiggle down a chimney, and the sweeps like someone around who can get them a good price for anything they might happen to get their hands on. Jimmy Sideways is called the King of the Sweeps by the children and young teens who work under him, mostly because not many of them reach the age he is now. He's a peripheral member of the Royals Gang and a friend to Valentine. The Turk A low and mean sort of man, the Turk is a criminal who gets his way mostly because no-one is willing to inspire his rancor. And with blackened teeth and a suspicious sqint, hige fists and a barral chest, he at least makes an impression even if it's not a good one. He steals a bit, takes his hand in the od bit of gambling, and will hire himself for any bit of thuggery that needs doing. He's certainly nothing exceptionally powerful, strong or intelligent, it's simply nastiness that grants him this reputation. He used to have a soft spot for a certain woman, some say, but as she's long dead he hasn't much softness left. Don't cross him if you can help it. Lily Clarke Lily Clarke is a Whitechapel girl, born and raised, and has been working her craft since she was young. Small, soft and sensual, she's been rather fortunate and has recently acheived a certain level of comfort. However, her habit of littering London with broken hearts is sure to catch up with her someday.... Grace Turpin grace Turping is hardened and weakened by life, but she keeps on going. A maid of all work, Grace is employed by a few households and occasionally takes in sewing. Sh had a child once, but not anymore. Hercules O'Halloran Hercules is a good man, or at least as good as they come. He's employed by a travelling circus, in town when it is. Jenny Diver Just another whore, only a bit more canny and greedy than most. She used to be affiliated with the Royals, but not anymore. That's something she doesn't like to talk about. Now she looks out for her own self and herself alone...and if she's lucky that will get her by. Kitty Clarke Kitty is a mudlark and spends her days hunting for lost treasures in the Thames at low tide. She's destitute and struggling, but has certain skills - such as uncanny eye for the street value of just about anything - that some may find useful. Essie Bishop Miss Bishop is a spinster, and lives with her senile mother in a little house. She's active in quite a few charitable organisations and her chief occupations (besides that of caretaker) are that of Gossip and spreader of bad news and vindictive lectures on morality and Right Living. No-ones yet figured out that she's more than a little mad. Casca Most know Anthony Brainbridge better by his nickname, Casca - after the histprican conspiritor. There are rumours and legends about him, but most laugh them off. But buy him a pint and he starts in with the wild stories - stories of conspiracies that go all the way up to the Royal Family, stories of Deepest Africa and Terrors lurking in Limehouse, and strange creatures in the Underground tunnels. Most consider him good for a laugh once he's had a few pints in him, and never think that he's saying anything of import. And hopefully they're right. -------------------- "Moi, je serai autocrate: c'est mon metier. Et le bon Dieu me pardonnnera: c'est son metier."

Hey! Here are some NPCs for the Gents!
There is Week Cheeky Ned. He already has a sheet. Hats and Alles are disappeared..and I think there are a few other ones too. Here is Tup's sister. His mom isn't around AS FAR AS WE KNOW. *wink winks* Pelly (Pee) Relations: Tuppance, (Peter Bracken) her older brother. They have a few other siblings that they don't really talk to or keep tack of much. One's working as a nurse for some high-up family. Appearance: She's not really much to look at. She has matted brown hair and a ill-fitting patched dress of no real color although sometimes her brother is kind enough to steal her new clothes. As the Gent's only girl she has fingers red from being pricked with needles and cooking with a little fire once in a while. She's really skinny and has a hungry look to her...but she still has her brother's greedy eyes and quick hands. -------------------- "I went down to Satan's kitchen, for to beg me food one morning

Lucien has been a close friend to Tim for several years
Lucien Hall Occupation: Actor/Libertine Sex/Age/Nationality: Male/24/English Appearance: Lucien is a tall, rather lanky fellow that gives an impression of being just a little too big for the doorways he walks through, and makes teacups and delicate things seem like children's toys in his hands, which are large and broad. He treats everything with exaggerated gentleness to avoid breaking it, being a little naturally clumsy. (this goes for his social actions as well) Personality/Archetype: He means well, really! He's big and a bit overeager, but there is no true malice in him, just at times a lack of consideration and care. He gives on at times the impression of a large, overeager puppy, that never really means to break things... He also fancies himself a libertine and dandy, but the range of his voluptuous lifestyle is usually satisfied by visiting opium dens and seducing actresses. Laurel is Tim's housekeeper/maid Laurel is a pretty young woman in her twenties, married, but as her husband is a sailor, and spends most of his time out at sea, she sees him very rarely. She is a native to the docks, born and bred there, and as such, Tim finds her insights to be very useful. -------------------- |

Name/Title:Tom Foster
Occupation: Anything he can turn his hands to. Sex/Age/Nationality: Male, 31, Londoner Appearance: Very brown. Large and squarish, with big hands and feet. Personality/Archetype: Good Sort, yeah? Gruff and seems standoffish if he doesn't know you. But his eyes get all soft when he talks about his wife. +/-: Strong and can work for days without stopping like he's built of stone. He's not the smartest--his heads made of stone too. Likes: Flossie, sleeping warm, full belly, money in the pocket, singing (rather off key) at church, meat pie with lots of salt and pepper. Little comforts. Dislikes: When rain gets inside his boots, going without supper, missing church, Flossie being sad. All this nonsense with airships and murders and such. Short History: Was born into a family poor in funds but rich in love. Went to ragged school for a while but the mill needed him more. He worked hard for his family, went to church, thought life was decent. And then one day he saw Flossie over the top of a fence and knew he had everything he could ever want. Stole her away and married her, and he's been working himself twice as hard since then to keep her in comforts, and is glad of it every day. Motivations/Goals: He doesn't want much. Just to keep them in house, keep Flossie happy. He thought he'd be a family man, but fate's been cruel in that regard. He's still praying, though, every Sunday and every night before bed. Name/Title: Flossie (Flora) Foster Occupation: Wife/Seamstress Sex/Age/Nationality: Female, 20, Londoner Appearance: She's pale and delicate and has finely boned hands and face, built like a little bird. Honey brown hair and wide set eyes, finely arched brows and tiny little hands and feet. Personality/Archetype: Kind and soft hearted...sometimes too soft hearted. She has a quiet strength though when it comes down to it. +/-: She's educated and skilled in the womanly arts. She's genuinely loving and good. But she's too naive and sometimes a little silly and easily scared. Likes: Well made gloves and stockings, baby animals and songbirds and doing a good deed, feeling Tom wrap her up in his big strong arms. Dislikes: Hunger, cold, the strain sewing puts on her eyes, when Tom works all night, missing her family, things that are cheaply made. Short History: She grew up in comfort and security, assured a posh life but lonely and ignored. She was taught everything a lady would need to know like how to direct servants and run a household and embroider in neat perfect stitches. Her father had a banker all picked out for her. That all changed when she peeked over a fence and heard Tom Foster's voice call out to her. She eloped with him after a year of whispers through the fence and now she lives in a tiny house that lets in the rain. But she tries to be happy; after all she has Tom. Motivations/Goals: Just to make it along with her man. She thinks sometime about reuniting with her family. To support and love Tom...and to become a mother. -------------------- A girl alone, all on her own, must try to have a heart of stone...

I've been instructed to put Lindsey's NPC's in here...so here they are:
Name/Title: Gilbert Walker Occupation: valet Sex/Age/Nationality: male, vague 50's-60's, for he is an Englishman.... Appearance: He's not a spring chicken, and he doesn't look like one either, but he is sturdy and healthy. His hair is white streaked with steely grey, his eyes are sharp and alert and brown in color. He dresses well and has quite good hygiene. +/-: He's clever and quick, and he has a bit of an education. He has the bearing of a man quite discontent with his lot in life and determined not to change it but to make everyone else just as miserable as he is. Likes: The country, pickled herring, and strong, black coffee. Dislikes: Many things. Despite his demeanor, his young master is not one of them. Short History: He was destined to be a servant like his parents before him, and theirs before them. His father served the same family whom Walker now serves. In Shropshire, he was actually quite content with his daily duties. All the more reason that being ordered to London to look after the young Mr. Lindsey was so repellent. Now he lives only for his work, never leaving the house unless absolutely necessary, for he believes that London is a nest of vipers. Moreover, it's dirty and it smells bad. Motivations/Goals: Really anything that will get him back to the country, if that could ever happen. He's extremely loyal to the Lindseys, and would never dream of doing anything to harm Nat in any way, but perhaps if he just finally met the right girl and settled down they could just go back to Shropshire and pretend none of this racket had ever happened. Name/Title: Harriett Gambol Occupation: Housekeeper/cook Sex/Age/Nationality: Female, vague 50's, quite English, thank you. Appearance: A plump and vivacious woman, she has fine red hair streaked with grey, a wide face with large features and lined, caring eyes. +/-: She is extremely competent at what she does, and runs the household with practiced ease. She's relatively outgoing and cheerful and kind to anyone who doesn't give her reason to be otherwise. She is also overly inquisitive and a bit of a gossip, and she also tends to trust people quite a bit more than they are due. Likes: The smell of things baking on cold mornings, a pair of shoes that fit just right, and the satisfaction of knowing that she's done her best to help anyone who needs it. Dislikes: Too much noise, too much quiet, too few children, and not being useful. Short History: As long as Nat can remember, Mrs. Gambol served his household. She really was only a cook in his parents' household, but when the Lindseys asked her to go along with their young son and manage his house in London, she fell into the job with ease. Now that she is in London, she is rather taken with all there is to do and see, but she is well aware that she has a job to do, first and foremost, and she frets over Nat like a mother hen. Motivations/Goals: Mrs. Gambol is a no-nonsense sort of woman. She isn't the dreaming type, and she believes that having one's health and being loyal to one's family and employers are really the only important things in life. Name/Title: Miss Clara Lindsey Occupation: young lady of the upper class Sex/Age/Nationality: Female, 18, English Appearance: She bears a striking resemblance to her older brother, but with softer features all around. Where his hair is dark brown, hers is a sun-kissed auburn. Where his eyes are clear grey, hers are a muted sky-blue. While his nose is sharp and aquiline, hers is straight and slightly upturned. She is quite pretty in her simple, country way, and dresses how any good Christian girl should, while still remaining quite fashionable. For Shropshire, anyway. +/-: She's sweet and quite sensitive, beautiful works of art and music will literally move her to tears. She also exhibits a bit of her brother's flightiness, though in a far more contained and controlled manner. Likes: Sweets, flowers, symphonies, and reading certain novels, though certainly nothing scandalous. Dislikes: Loud sudden noises. Too much light. Really any form of sensory overload. Short History: Essentially the same thing you might find on Lindsey's character sheet, though of course she did not go to public school. Motivations/Goals: Clara has had most decisions made for her, and therefore doesn't really know if she has any goals of her own. She supposes she would like to marry Robert Woolthorpe, the young man to whom she is engaged, and bear him children. Secretly, she sits up at night thinking of what must be happening to Nat in London, and wonders what kind of beautiful things might he be seeing in the city without her. -------------------- Magic, madam, is like wine; and if you are not used to it, it will make you drunk..

Name - Mrs. Fran Carrol
Occupation - Wilkie's Mother Sex/Age/Nationality - Female/???/English Physical Description - Quite possibly still an attractive lady Fran remembers to pull up her hair and look her best when out in public. She's nervous and occassionally wrings her thin hands and glances around without knowing she is doing just that. Depression has hit her hard and is evident in how she speaks and the emptiness that reflects in her eyes. General Impression - Fran still appears as the proper lady she was trained to be, but there is a nervous behaviour to her and one can not normally miss the empty eyes nor the mild manner she has about herself. Short History - Fran was young when she met Charles and the promise of a steady household and a caring husband made her turn away from the younger suitors she preferred. Several years her senior Charles was the kindly sort and took care of her and their children. Fran's life started to fall apart with the disappearance of her eldest child, Margaret, then the untimely death of her husband soon after. In denial and depression she closes herself off from most of her friends and will not speak a word about it. The birth of her third child brings a bit of joy, but she can not help but dwell on the past and soon the baby dies as well sending her into a bottomless pit of despair that she barely sees past. Although on occassion still caring and trying to remain the "mother" she often could care less where Wilkie may be off to and only seems to scold him if he has tormented Livi overly. She has a few unsaid plans for her last remaining child, but these remain locked away as much as she is most of the time. -------------------- "Human nature cannot be studied in cities...a village is the place. There you can get to know your man inside and out - in a city you but know his crust; and his crust is usually a lie."

Evanna's uncle, a gentleman adventurer.
Figton Westower(Uncle Figgy)- Male, 38, English Occupation: Captain of the airship The Dawn Alarm. Travelling adventurer and treasure hunter, though he's been known to do a spot of smuggling or perform some other less-than-perfectly-legal tasks. Appearance: Tall, dark, and wiry, with hair a bit longer than is normal for a gentleman and large, friendly blue eyes. Personality: Fun loving and adventurous, Figgy is a perfect gentleman, but is not above getting his hands dirty. He loves travelling, and hates being in one place for too long. He is completely devoted to his niece and his crew, and loves playing pranks on them. He teases Evanna constantly, acting more like a misbehaving little boy than her uncle and gaurdian. He loves Evanna dearly, and worries about her constantly. Boyish and charming, he is also a complete professional, and will stop at nothing to protect and provide for the ones he loves. He fancies himself a ladies' man, though in truth he is too busy to pay much attention to the fairer sex. Relationships: August and Adele Westower, his brother and sister-in-law; Evanna and Mirielle Westower, his nieces. Motivations: Figgy has no real goals other than keeping his ship in the air and his niece safe and happy. You can see an example of his personality here: [link] -------------------- C'est la lune qui conduit la danse

Name: Mrs. Lavinia Hall Relationships: There is a Mr. Hall supposedly, although his actual existance is anyone's guess. From her often disgruntled personality, most seem to think he's in hiding from his witch of a wife. Everyone else just thinks she's a witch of a landlady, and she doesn't seem to have any problems with that. Physical Description: Of an average height, there's an aura about her that makes her more imposing than her actual stature. Hall is an angular woman and singularly unattractive. The angular quality of her body is only augmented by her thinness; sometimes it appears that all she's made of is sharp bones and pale skin. Her face is well-lined, and the skin around her eyes and lips appears permanently pinched. Most often, her lips are pursed into a thin, pale line, and her eyebrows are nearly always drawn down in anger or annoyance. When she walks, she pushes people and obstacles out of her way with her sharp elbows and piercing eyes. General Impression: In short, a shrew. She usually smells of gin, but this doesn't make her personality much easier to handle. --- Name: Mully the Washer Relationships: Her mother Alba, a seamstress, and step-father, an aging Fleet Street typesetter. Her employer, a steely old Dragon-lady that refers to all the laundry girls as 'Mercy'. The other girls, of course, and a few lads down at one of the pubs she liked to go drinking at when she has a little coin. She used to have a soldier once that promised to make her honest, but joined the EIC and stopped coming 'round. Physical Description: Mully is in some respects a study in contrasts. She's a very pretty young woman, and a very ragged and filthy one. While raggedness isn't at all uncommon for her class, the fact that is doesn't detract from her prettiness does. She has wide hips and a generous figure clothed in much repaired rags, and long , thick, dark hair that's dirty and tangled, often to the point of beingt a bit matted. It would likely be quite an asset if she took good care of it. She has thick, dark, serious brows above pretty brown eyes that are full of youthful mischief. Her mouth is wide and sensual and her skin a little darker than is usual under all the dirt and soot - for a laundress she seems otherwise averse to water and soap. She walks with a sway, and smells of gin, and soap, and laundalum, and lye. Her hands, arms below the elbow and legs below the garters, in contrast to the rest of her, are all typically quite clean and fresh-smelling. General Impression: Mully gives first an impression of strong will, and then of strong opinions, and sometimes, if it's a warm day, a strong smell. She manages extremes of drink and sin on a fairly regular basis as well, except of course on Sundays. She is generally a bawdy, cheerful, talkative girl, on days that she isn't overworked or in a foul mood. Days that she is, she comes off as surly, confrontational, mean-tempered. Generally, bad-mood days outnumber the good ones, and strong amounts of alcohol generally reverses her mood from one to the other. ---- Name: Esme 'Sissy' Mullins Description: Esme 'Sissy' Mullins is the granddaughter of a Milanese draper that married up. Her parents are now the owners of several warehouses, her uncle owns a textiles factory. As the Nouveau Riche go, she's a kind girl; modest, and rather charming in a plain, silly way. She likes to think the clouds are angels' wings and the stars God's daisy chain, and she knows O'Flynn as 'Mister Grant', a merchant. His flattery has quite turned her head and she is inches away from eloping with him, having already given him the layout of her uncle's factory and made a copy of the key to her garden wall without a thought...so better to enable him to woo her in secret, of course. -------------------- Women admire gentlemen, and sleep with cads. - Louis L'amour
