Olivia Harte- 07-15-2006
((15 July, 2 PM))

Olivia held in a sigh as her sister's stopped in front of yet another store to gush over the window display. There was so much to do and see, yet the only thing her sisters ever did was stop at the window of every fashion store to gasp and sigh at the displays. Crouching down, she stretched her legs, sore from running to keep up with her sisters all day. Hearing a soft mew, Livi turned her head to see a cat, a gray tabby, staring at her. Smiling, she held out her hand to the animal, calling to it. "Here, kitty, come here!" she called, and was disappointed when the cat turned on its tail and began to walk the other way. Hesitating only for a fraction of a second, Olivia began to follow it, trying to catch up with the stealthy animal. She was only going a few steps, and she'd be back before her sisters even noticed she was gone, she reasoned.

After minutes of trying to catch the animal as it weaved its way down the street, Olivia finally got close enough to reach its tail. Not knowing how sensitive a spot it was, her childish hands reached out and gave the tail a hard yank, causing the cat to screech. Startled, she let go of the tail and watched as the cat darted off into an alleyway. Disappointed at the end of her adventure, Olivia turned to go back to her sisters, only to find a busy crowd with her siblings nowhere in sight.

Frightened, her eyes began to water with thick tears. Her mother had told her to not wander off, and all those stories of girls who disappeared and never came back...she would be one of them now! She fought back her tears gulping and wiping at her eyes, her sisters would find her, they had to! She looked at the faces in the crowd, trying to find a kind face, her small shoulders shaking, when she felt someone grab her from behind. "Olivia!" her sister, Anabelle, she thought, it was hard to tell through the tears, cried, shaking her. "I told you not to move, you were supposed to stay close!" Anabelle continued, angry, "if you ever, ever do something like that again..." her sister trailed off, shaking her harder. Taking Olivia's right hand in her own, Anabelle held onto the small hand tightly, too tightly. Whimpering from the harsh grip, she looked down at the ground and mumbled a soft apology. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to..." she said, her voice shaking to much to finish. Her other sister, Elizabeth came around to her other side, kneeling beside her and wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "It's okay Livi, don't cry. We were just so worried, you promise you won't give us a fright like that again, right?" Elizabeth said soothingly, rubbing the younger girl's back. Calmed, Olivia gave her a watery smile and nodded, letting Elizabeth take her right hand.

The trio made their way home, Olivia, safely leashed between her two sisters, chattering animatedly about the cat she had seen the entire way there.
